Why distilled water does not conduct Electricity?

Distilled water conduct electricity, but very less compared to piped, well or salt water. Liquids conduct electricity by the positively and negatively charged ions that are actually moving from one of the electrodes to the other, carrying charge (electricity) with them. Salt water has salt NaCl in it which ionizes to ions Na and Cl- that can conduct electricity. Distilled water is the water that was boiled to steam and recondensed to water. This leaves no salt in it. Water also can ionize into H and OH- like salt does, but it does to a far less extent than salt and is very resistant to conducting electricity.
